Potential Area of flooding in Poole Old Town

Flood defences for Poole Old Town

Poole People working with the Unity Alliance, and especially Councillor Felicity Rice as Portfolioholder, succeeded in getting the Environment Agency to invest £12.4M in sea defences from Poole Bridge to Hunger Hill. This should safeguard the Old Town against major flooding for the next 100 years, although the reality of recent climate change has moved faster than all the models predicted.

This is a plan for the longterm, with interventions planned for 2022, 2071 and 2105, that can adapt as sea level changes and other factors require. Importantly, it replaces an expectation that individual developers would build seawalls for their own developments, and should ensure that the quayside can become a consistent quality public space.
